WELCOME TO MARIN ACADEMY! This page is for those students who want to audition for placement in a music class. We encourage you to take a look at the rest of the website, especially the Ensemble Profiles.
There are THREE aspects to the audition process (two for Chamber Music)
(1) INFORMATION SHEET: Please CLICK HERE and enter some basic information about yourself.
(2) RECORDED AUDITIONS:
Chamber Music: Submit a cd or dvd recording that shows two contrasting movements of a sonata, concerto or solo work. Each segment should be 2-4 minutes in length. Make sure it's clear which part you are playing. The cd or dvd is due to MA Admissions by Friday April 20.
Foundations, Roots, World or Jazz: Submit a 1-2 minute musical piece or segment that shows you at your best. Get your friend to record you on an iPhone or use Garage Band, or use something from a recent concert. Make sure it's clear what YOU are playing. You don't need make a production out of this, keep it simple.) You'll also have a LIVE audition (see below)
Recording is due Monday April 22
Preferred: Email an mp3 to bschleeter@ma.org - use your last name in the file name! Or post a clip on YouTube and send a link to bschleeter@ma.org.

(3) LIVE AUDITIONS (not for Chamber) :
These will happen at 2pm in the main music room on Welcome Day, April 27. We've been using pieces that are fairly easy to learn and play with others, but have a variety of technical challenges.
LEARN ONE OF THE FOLLOWING PIECES. You'll play it in a group with other students who are auditioning, assisted by some older students.

WATERMELON MAN (Herbie Hancock): This is usually done as an instrumental but there are great vocal versions. Key of F for piano,bass, guitar, flute. G for tenor or soprano sax and trumpet. D for alto sax. Download charts HERE.
